Work With Us – Become A Billet Family In Canada
The Bhutan Canada Foundation is looking for Canadian families to billet Bhutanese scholarship winners beginning September 2012. These students will be completing their final two years of high school at Blyth Academy Yorkville. Email billet family inquiries to info@bhutancanada.org
We’re looking for:
- Individuals or families willing to host one or both Bhutanese scholarship students for one or two school years, beginning September 2012.
Qualities that make a great billet family:
- Sensitive and caring toward the student(s); considerate of and interested in his/her culture.
- Welcoming and accommodating; conscious of helping student(s) to make a smooth transition into Canadian life.
Responsibilities of a billet family:
- Students need to have their own bedroom, preferably with a closet.
- Students must have access to a quiet space with a desk and chair where they can study.
- Billet families will provide three nutritious meals per day.
- Billet families will offer a friendly and open home atmosphere in which guidance is available.

- Learn about Bhutanese culture while sharing Canadian values and teaching students about the beauties of our country.
Help From The Bhutan Canada Foundation/Blyth Academy:
- A two-day orientation will take place when students arrive in Toronto.
- Ongoing support from the BCF office in Toronto is always available.
- BCF will provide scholarship students with a monthly stipend to cover incidental costs and a student transit pass.
- BCF will provide mobile phones and laptop computers to scholarship students to use for the duration of their time in Canada.
- Blyth Academy provides an academic scholarship which covers the cost of attending Blyth Academy Yorkville, as well as any additional education costs such as textbooks.
Application Process
To become a billet family, please fill out and submit the "Become a Billet Family" application form. Following this, a personal interview will be held in your home and a criminal reference check will be required as a final step in the process.
