Our Mission

The Bhutan Canada Foundation believes that education is key to the thoughtful transformation of the young democracy of Bhutan. Through the provisioning of teachers, materials and scholarships we encourage the growth of a vibrant and universal system of education based on collaboration and knowledge exchange, thus carrying on a legacy of Canadian and Bhutanese cooperation and goodwill.

Teacher Recruitment

Teacher recruitment is a main focus for the foundation. Qualified teachers will be recruited from across Canada, the United States, Australia, New Zealand and the UK and will be posted at various schools throughout Bhutan depending on the needs of Bhutan’s Ministry of Education. Postings range from central towns near the capital to very remote communities. Recruited teachers will be committed to the same aims as the foundation – to support and promote the aims of the Bhutanese Ministry of Education in its pursuit of excellence in education. They will be interested in a life-changing experience that will involve personal growth and will result in making a difference in both the lives of their students and in the communities in which they live.

Educational Supplies

The Bhutan Canada Foundation will enhance learning opportunities within classrooms by making educational supplies more accessible. Supplies are in high demand, particularly in remote schools. The BCF is committed to providing books, equipment and educational aids to schools to address this need. To donate supplies or shipping please contact info@bhutancanada.org.

Scholarship Program

The Scholarship Committee will run scholarship competitions through the Bhutan office in Thimphu. This committee will select recipients through an application, interview and selection process. Any Bhutanese student will have the opportunity to apply for these scholarships, which will be awarded for both secondary and post-secondary programs. The secondary program will be for students completing their final two years of high school. General scholarships will be awarded to students completing their first undergraduate degree. Additionally, scholarships for teacher training programs (a focus for the organization) will be available. Please contact the Thimphu office at (975) 2 322109 for more information.

Scholarship recipients will be placed at an appropriate participating school within Canada. Selected schools will be those who provide quality educational opportunities and who agree to forgo their academic fees and/or their surcharge for international studies, to support the programs.
